Desktops and Laptops with Linux pre-installed

I have been aware for a while of the monopoly situation in which the leading desktop and laptop PC sellers did not offer any alternatives to the Microsoft Windows operating system. Historically this wasn’t such a bad thing in terms of standardisation. But without debating the topic I’m pleased to have come across an article on The Register which reported on 1/May/2007 that Dell Linux is go.

The following page on the Dell UK website apparently confirms this.

there are alternatives to Microsoft Windows

I do appreciate the contribution Microsoft Windows has made over the years, and it plays a big part in my day job, but I’m happy that there are alternatives to Microsoft Windows.

I’ve been using linux on my laptop at home for over 12 months now. Yes do like the linux ethos, and that of open source. I like the fact that its becoming more and more credible. Choice is good.

I’m currently using the kbuntu linux distribution, which is the kde version of ubuntu.
